Confederation of filmmakers unions of the CIS and the Baltics
In May 1991 Filmmakers’ Union of the USSR was reorganized into Confederation of Filmmakers’ Unions. The members of Confederation are Filmmakers’ Unions of: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldavia, Tajikistan, Turkmenia, Uzbekistan, the Ukraine, Estonia, ST. Petersburg and Moscow .
The highest body is the Council of Confederation comprised of the leaders of the filmmakers’ unions from each of the former republics.
Since 1993 Rustam Ibragimbekov is the Chairman of Confederation of Filmmakers’ Unions .
Confederation has held ten Forums of national film of the CIS, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. During these gatherings guests and hosts have the rare opportunity to see the most recent films made in the former republics of the USSR as well as to exchange the ideas on the most urgent and vital problems of filmmaking in their countries working out the strategy for film exchange and film studies..
Rustam Ibragimbekov has organized and leads the annual festival “East-West” that screens the best films made in the Eurasian territory. Currently the “East-West” expanded including also films made in European countries.
